Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews said his team will not take Afghanistan lightly ahead of their 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup clash in Dunedin on Sunday.
Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan lost their opening games to New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively but Sri Lanka are the favorites heading into the match.
Speaking to the media, Mathews stated that the contest against Afghanistan will not be an easy one. “We have worked extremely hard in the past few days to prepare ourselves for this game because we have to take it very seriously. We can’t be complacent and we are well-prepared for the challenge.”
Mathews also pointed out that consistency in the fielding department was lacking. In the match against New Zealand in Christchurch, Sri Lanka dropped Kane Williamson twice and Corey Anderson once and both batsmen went on to make crucial fifties. “We haven’t been consistent but we worked extremely hard so hopefully we can carry it through to the next game,” he said.
