Sri Lanka registered a convincing win over Thailand in the first game of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 played today (25th April) at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu opted to bat first but didn’t have the greatest of starts as both the opening batters Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne were back in the dressing room inside the first 9 overs.

The run-making was difficult for the islanders throughout the innings but vital knocks from Nilakshika Silva (29*) and Hasini Perera (29) helped them post 122/5 in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Thailand were knocked over just 55 runs as Sri Lanka produced a brilliant collective bowling effort. The off-spinner Inoshi Fernando was the standout performer of the lot as she grabbed 3 wickets for 14 runs. The veteran seamer, Udeshika Prabodhani also picked up 2 wickets for 10 runs in her 3-over spell.

Sri Lanka will face-off with Scotland in their second game of the tournament on the 27th April at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
