Sri Lanka registered a convincing win over Bangladesh in their first warm-up game of ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024 played yesterday (14th January) at Pretoria in South Africa.
After opting to bat first, Sri Lanka managed to put on a decent total – 238/9 on the board thanks to Pulindu Perera’s valiant half-century at the top of the order. Dinura Kalupahana and Vishen Halambage also chipped in with useful 30s for the islanders.
While several other middle-order batters got starts, three run-outs hurt Sri Lanka’s pursuit of a high total. Wasi Siddiquee picked up 2/26 in six overs for Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka displayed a disciplined bowling effort right from the start, especially Vishen Halambage who removed Bangladesh opening pair inside first 10 overs to set the tone for Sri Lanka.
Perera who excelled with the bat earlier in the day, showcased his skills with the ball striking through the middle overs with his off-breaks, taking 2 for 5 in 4.5 overs.
Sri Lanka will play their second and final warmup game against the defending champions India on the 17th January at Pretoria.
