The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) has finalized a 12 member squad for the upcoming Asian Schools’ Rugby Sevens Championship that is set to take to be played from the 22nd – 26th of July at Kings Ground, Hong Kong.
The Asian Schools’ Rugby Sevens Championship that is held for the 2nd successive occasion will feature 10 teams grouped into in two groups. The official draw that was held on the 11th of July by the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) saw Sri Lanka placed in Group B alongside Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Mongolia.
The initial 60 member squad was skimmed down to 21 members after the trials last Friday and currently a 12 member squad has been finalized by the coaching staff and the panel of selectors. The selected squad will be the final touring team who would be departing to Hong Kong on Thursday.
S. Thomas’ Sevens skipper and wing three-quarter Naveen Henakankanamage will give leadership to the Under 18 Tuskers team who will travel to Hong Kong in the coming weekend while Sumudu Rankothge of the champion Isipathana College team will be the deputy skipper for the side. The side will include three players from Trinity & Isipathana, two from St. Joseph’s & S. Thomas’ while one representation each from St. Peter’s & St. Anthony’s.
