The second and final leg of the Asia U20 rugby seven’s series kicked off today at the Hong Kong stadium. Junior Tuskers lost two of the group matches and won the last one against Malaysia.
Sri Lanka played against the UAE in the first game and had a shocking defeat 17 – 12, whereas the Tuskers won convincingly in Malaysia against the UAE 33 – 07. Science College’s Prinse Chamara and Omalka Gunarathne scored in the first game in Hong Kong.
It was another awful result where Kevin Dixon’s team lost badly to China 14 – 33 in the second match. After both the losses Sri Lanka team manager Rajiv Perera stated to ThePapare.Com that firstly it was really hard for them to handle the heat in the artificial turf. Then there were too many mistakes and selfish play by the boys. The two tries against China was scored by Reeza Raffaideen of Kingswood College.
However, the Tuskers end the day with a convincing win over the Malaysians 31 – 14 with an impressive team performance. Reeza and Prinse scored two tries each and Omalka Gunarathne scored one. In the last game of the day, the one between Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei there was a remarkable finish for the hosts and the defending champions Hong Kong as they thrashed Taipei 52 – 00.
As a result Sri Lanka will now play in the cup quarterfinal against Chinese Taipei at 9.06am SL time tomorrow. In the last outing where Sri Lanka met the Chinese Taipei the result was a tie with 19 -19 in Malaysia.
