Pakistan U19 Team registered a convincing 9-wicket win over Sri Lanka U19 in the only Youth Test between the sides, which was played today (17th October) at Karachi.
Having won the toss, the hosts managed to post a mammoth total – 433/9 on the board, thanks to well-compiled centuries made by Shahzaib Khan (161) and Azan Awais (104).
The wrist spinner Malsha Tharupathi was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he picked up 3 wickets for 75 runs. Ruvishan Perera and Vihas Thewmika also grabbed 2 wickets each.
In reply, Sri Lanka had a terrible time with the bat as they were bowled out for just 204 runs. Pulindu Perera played a fighting knock, scoring 65 runs off 129 balls with 9 fours.
Sri Lanka were asked to follow on with 229 runs behind, but another disappointing batting effort restricted them to just 236 runs, setting Pakistan just 8-run target to win. Sri Lanka’s opening batting pair Pulindu Perera and Sineth Jayawardene were the only two batters who stood out for the visitors with fighting half-centuries.
Pakistan chased down the target of 8 runs in 1.4 overs, losing only 1 wicket to win the one-off Youth Test. The tour will now move towards the white-ball format as the two sides are set to meet in the first Youth ODI of the 5-match series on the 22nd October at the same venues.
