Sri Lanka U19 outplayed Pakistan U19 to clinch a 58-run win in the first Youth ODI of the 5-match series played today (22nd October) at Karachi.

Having won the toss, the hosts opted to field first and managed to strike early dismissing the visiting skipper Sineth Jayawardene for a duck.

The opening batter Pulindu Perera revived Sri Lanka’s innings building a 136-run stand with Ravishan de Silva for the 2nd wicket.

Perera didn’t get enough support from the rest of the batters, but he stood out to produce a blistering century as Sri Lanka posted 309 runs on the board.

Perera scored 156 runs off 96 balls with 17 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 162.50. Naveed Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he picked up 3 wickets for 52 runs.

This is Perera’s second 150+ score in his Youth ODI career. He scored 155 runs against West Indies U19 last month in a Youth ODI played at Dambulla.

In their turn with the ball, Sri Lanka also impressed showcasing a disciplined bowling effort to restrict the host to 251. Shamyl Hossain (98) and Arafat Minhas (84) fought hard for Pakistan with fine half-centuries.

Dinura Kalupahana was the standout performer with the ball for the visitors as he picked up 4 wickets for 32 runs. The speedster Garuka Sanketh also impressed with the ball scalping 3 wickets for 42 runs.

The second Youth ODI of the 5-match series will be played on the 24th October at the same venue.
