Pakistan U19 scripted a stunning run-chase to beat Sri Lanka U19 in the third Youth ODI today (27th October) at Karachi, to take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
Sri Lanka Skipper Sineth Jayawardene won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first, continuing the trend at Karachi surface.
Sri Lanka got off to a shaky start losing 3 quick wickets up front, but middle order batter Rusanda Gamage and wicket-keeper batter Sharujan Shanmuganathan steadied the ship, adding a 137-run partnership for the 5th wicket.
Gamage top scored for the visitors with a brilliant century – 110 runs off 127 balls – while Shanmuganathan chipped in with a useful half-century as Sri Lanka posted a formidable total – 289 on the board in the allotted 50 overs.
Sri Lanka started off well with the ball, dismissing two top order wickets for 61 runs, but the hosts’ opening batter Shamyl Hussain took the game away from them, smashing a match winning century.
Hussain stroked 150 runs of 109 balls with 13 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 137.61 as Pakistan chased down the target in the 46th over, losing only 4 wickets.
The fourth Youth ODI of the 5-match series will be played on the 29th of October at the same venue.
