The first Youth Test of the two-match series between Sri Lanka U19 and England U19 commenced today (8th July) at Wormsley.
Having won the toss, the hosts skipper Hamza Shaikh invited the visitors to take first lease of the wicket. The decision paid off as they managed to take early breakthroughs with the new ball.

Sri Lanka lost their 4 top order wickets for just 37 runs inside first 11 overs. The skipper Dinura Kalupahana and No. 5 batter Mahith Perera then revived the innings, adding 66-run partnership for the 5th wicket.
Kalupahana built another crucial stand worth 74 runs with Diniru Abeywickramasingha before the rain brought early stumps on day one. Kalupahana remained unbeaten on 70 runs while Abeywickramasingha remained unbeaten on 35 runs at the close of play.

There were several rain interruptions during the course of the day which resulted in only 42.4 overs to be bowled on the opening day.
