Sri Lanka U19 registered a convincing win over England U19 in the first Youth ODI of the three-match series between the sides played yesterday (28th June) at Chelmsford.
After been put into bat first, Sri Lanka posted a commanding total – 294/6 on the board in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to half-centuries made by Mahith Perera (58*), Sharujan Shanmuganathan (57) and Diniru Abeywickramasingha (52).
The Skipper Dinura Kalupahana also contributed with a vital 49 runs in the middle order for Sri Lanka. Noah Cornwell was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he grabbed 3 wickets for 54 runs in his 9-over spell.
In reply, England posted only 229 runs, handing a 65-run win for the visitors. Noah Thain (58) and Luc Benkenstein (51) struck fine half-centuries for the hosts. The off-spinner Vihas Thewmika was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as he grabbed 3 wickets for 37 runs.
