>>Nipun Dananjaya pulls off an unlikely draw for Sri Lanka U19s<<
After the washout in the first YODI, there was early signs that it was going to be deemed another no-result game as the rain interrupted the start of play. However, after a few hours of delay, the game commenced as a 31-over per side game.
Sri Lanka skipper Nipun Dhananjaya was asked to bat first by home skipper and the visitors put on a competitive total of 209 at the conclusion of 31 overs.
Sri Lanka U19 opener Navod Paranawithana made a blistering 78 off just 75 balls as he held the Sri Lankan innings together with 9 boundaries and a six. He was well supported by Thomian Ravindu Rasantha, all-rounders Sonal Dinusha and Chamindu Wijesinghe who made decent contributions to guide Sri Lanka’s total to 209.
In reply, the visitors tasted early success as pacemen, Amshi de Silva and Dilshan Madushanka broke the top order of the Bangladesh innings. Hosts were 42-4 in the 8th over when Tawhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain combined at the middle to rebuild the Bangladeshi innings.
The pair dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers from the get-go as they cruised to a 161-run partnership in just 17.4 overs, punishing the visitors all over the ground. Tawhid Hridoy rushed to a 56-ball 82 while Shamim Hossain slammed his way to a stroke-filled 95 which included 5 sixes.
Sri Lanka bowlers were left stunned amidst the carnage put on by this pair as Bangladesh raced to the target in just 25.4 overs. Richmondite Amshi de Silva was the only one to have any control with the ball today for Sri Lanka as he picked up 3 wickets in his 6 overs.
Shamim Hossain was named as the player of the match for his brilliant display of batting and his 2 wickets in the match.
Bangladesh U19s lead the 5-match series 1-0 and the 3rd Youth ODI will be held on 14 November at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
