Sri Lanka U19s were able to surpass the Bangladesh 1st innings total and muscle up a 17-run lead in their 2nd innings as they concluded day 03 of the 2nd and last Youth Test between the two teams on 187-5 at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

Bangladesh U19s started day 03 at 321/8 with Meherab Hossain Ahin and Ashiqur Rahman Ruhit at the crease and the pair added 33 runs more today to take the total to 354, causing more misery for the visitors.

Sri Lanka U19 skipper Nipun Dananjaya managed to knock off the final 2 wickets, increasing his wicket count for 4 in the innings. Sri Lanka U19 trailed by 170 runs in the 1st innings when they came to bat in the 2nd innings.

Partnership between Sri Lanka U19 openers; Anthonian Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Richmondite Thaveesha Abhishek lasted only 5 overs in the 2nd innings as seamer Mehedy Hasan removed them in quick succession for 24 and 18 respectively.

Sri Lanka were 44-2, still trailing 126 when Thomian Ravindu Rasantha and all-rounder from Mahanama College Sonal Dinusha partnered up at the middle and put on a 63 runs partnership. Rasantha was dismissed by Meherab Hossain for 33 but Dinusha held his nerves to rack up a much needed half century for Sri Lanka.

His composed knock of 55 off 148 balls included just 4 boundaries as he tried to bat out the overs to earn Sri Lanka an unlikely draw after their dreadful 1st innings. After Dinusha’s dismissal, skipper Nipun Dananjaya took up the mantle to hold one end for Sri Lanka as he ended the day on 29 off 116 balls.

Sri Lanka U19s were at 187 for 5, leading only by 17 runs at the stumps on day 03 and they will need a mammoth effort from their skipper if they are to draw this game and complete the series 0-0. Mehedy Hasan was the pick of the bowlers as he snatched up 3 wickets for 39 runs.
