Sri Lanka U19 Board President’s XI suffer first defeat in India

Sri Lanka U19 Board President’s XI suffered a 7-wicket defeat at the hands of India Green in their first match in the U19 Challenger’s Trophy (50 overs) played in Mumbai yesterday.  

India Green skipper Abhishek Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. The Lankan opening pair of Dhananjaya Lakshan and Vishwa Chathuranga added 31 runs before the former was clean bowled by right-arm seamer Darshan Nalkande for just 15 runs. Chathuranga followed when he was undone Nalkande for 21.

Nalkande continued to rip through the Lankan batting lineup taking 5 wickets for 18 runs in a spell of 8 overs. Nuwanidu Fernando made 24 for the visitors but after being 87 for 5, Ravindu Sanjana and skipper Ayana Siriwardana somewhat rescued constructing a solid 77-run stand for the 6th wicket.

Left-handed Sanjana made a clinical 64-ball 49 while hard-hitting Siriwardana slammed 5 sixes and 4 fours during his blistering 47-ball 59 which helped Sri Lanka U19s reach 220.

Chasing 221 runs to win, India Green comfortably reached the winning target in 32.1 overs. Ankush Singh, Priyam Garg and skipper Sharma made half-centuries for the winners while Nipun Malinga, Ravindu Sanjana and Hareen Buddhila captured a wicket apiece.

Sri Lanka U19 Board President’s XI will take on India Red tomorrow, 28th November for their second match.
