India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final T20I of Sri Lanka’s tour of India 2022 on the 27th of February at Dharmsala.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka yet again got off to a troubled start losing 3 wickets in the powerplay. They ended the first powerplay with just 18 runs on the board and presumably having lost the game by that point.
The Sri Lankan top-order looked ordinary against the second-string bowlers of this world No.1 T20I team, with India resting Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.
With the top four being unable to get to double-figures, Sri Lanka were 4 for 29 by the 9th over of their innings.
Thanks to the lone fightback from the Sri Lankan skipper, the visitors were able to post a decent total of 146 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Following his cracking innings in the last game, Dasun Shanaka bettered it with an unbeaten 74 runs in just 38 deliveries striking at over 190.
Avesh Khan was incredible with the ball for India as the right-arm seamer stunned the Lankan top-order with sharp lines and lengths.
He was well-supported by senior seamer Mohammad Siraj who tied up one end brilliantly.
Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav did the tougher job of drying up runs by giving away only 22 runs in his 4 overs.
In India’s chase, skipper Rohit Sharma once again became Dushmantha Chameera’s bunny as it only took 4 deliveries for the speedster to undo the hitman.
Shreyas Iyer, who is in flying form, having scored half-centuries in both the previous games of this tour added another 73 runs to his tally and remained unbeaten in all three games.
His flawless innings ensured that India had no hiccups in this chase as they got over the line with over 3 overs remaining.
Except for Chameera, all the other Lankan bowlers were quite ordinary against the Indian batters as they felt no pressure right from the start of their innings.
Jeffrey Vandersay went for plenty in his 2 overs along with Lahiru Kumara who also bled runs in excess of 10 runs an over.
However, Kumara was the top wicket-taker for Sri Lanka as he accounted for 2 wickets at the latter end of India’s innings.
With that effortless win, India has now won 7 T20I series on the trot while extending their consecutive win tally to an unparalleled 12-game streak.
The stylish right-hand batter Shreyas Iyer was adjudged the Player of the Match and also the Player of the Tournament as he made 204 runs in 3 games without losing his wicket even a single time throughout the series.
