Bangladesh registered a 4-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the third ODI to clinch the three-match series, 2-1 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss for the third consecutive time and opted to bat first on a batting friendly surface at Chattogram.
Sri Lanka made only one change to their playing XI as the off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana returned to the side replacing the injured Dilshan Madushanka.
Sri Lanka got off to a poor start as Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed removed both opening batters Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando inside first 4 overs.
Sadeera Samarawickrama continued his poor run of form as he fell for just 14 runs after nicking one behind of the bowling off Mustafizur Rahman. The skipper Kusal Mendis got a decent start but couldn’t capitalize on it as the introduction of wrist spinner Rishad Hossain saw him nicking one behind.
The vice-captain Charith Asalanka played a chancy knock and a loose shot outside the off stump led to his downfall. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals but Janith Liyanage stood tall from one end keeping the scorecard ticking.
Maheesh Theekshana gave him good support and the duo added vital 60-run stand for the 8th wicket to guide Sri Lanka to a respectable score – 235. Liyanage scored a well-compiled century – his maiden ton in ODIs.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s experience came to the fore as he built a vital 48-run partnership with Mehidy Hasan to take the game away from the visitors. Hasaranga struck again to dismiss the set batter Mehidy for 25 runs but Rishad Hossain came out all guns blazing to dominate the proceedings.
