Sri Lanka registered a 3-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second ODI to level the three-match series, 1-1 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

Sri Lanka Skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss for the second consecutive time in the series, but this time opted to bowl first, having seen how the dew caused problems for their bowlers at night in the first ODI.

The visitors had made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Dunith Wellalage in the place of Maheesh Theekshana.

Dilshan Madushanka once again gave Sri Lanka a perfect start with the ball, nipping out Litton Das for a duck in the very first over of the innings.

The opening batter Soumya Sarkar and the Skipper Najmul Shanto then rebuilt the hosts’ innings adding 75-run partnership for the second wicket before Madushanka returned to scalp his 2nd wicket, removing the Bangladesh Skipper with a peach of delivery.

Soumya Sarkar and Hridoy built another half-century stand before the former was dismissed courtesy of a brilliant catch from Madushanka of the bowling off Wanindu Hasaranga.

Hasaranga outfoxed the experienced batter Mahmudullah in the same over to change the momentum of the game in favor of the visitors. Hasaranga continued to trouble the Bangladesh middle order, dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan.

However, Hridoy stood tall and played a top-class knock to give Bangladesh a brilliant finish, which enabled them to post a competitive total on a good batting surface. The injury to Madushanka was a big blow for Sri Lanka in the latter part of the innings.

Bangladesh managed to score 44 runs in the last 3 overs to finish on a high. Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers the visitors as he bagged 4 wickets for 45 runs.

The hosts carried the momentum into their bowling as well, as seamers Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed were right on the money and had the tourists stuttering at 43/3 inside the first 7 overs of the innings.

However, the opening batter Pathum Nissanka and Vice-Captain Charith Asalanka got together in the middle and built a match-winning 185-run stand for the fourth wicket to set the tone for an impressive win for Sri Lanka.

This is Sri Lanka’s highest 4th wicket partnership in ODIs, breaking the record of 171 set by Arjuna Ranatunga and Roshan Mahanama.

Nissanka notched up a brilliant century, while Asalanka hit a fine half-century taking the game away from the hosts. The dew had a telling effect once again like in the last game in the latter part of the second innings, which helped Sri Lanka after a temporary setback in the run-chase.

Things got a bit nervy in the end after losing the set batters, Nissanka and Asalanka, in quick succession, but Dunith Wellalage and Wanindu Hasaranga held their nerves to take Sri Lanka home.

The third and final ODI between the sides will be played on the 18th March at the same venue. Spectators can catch all the action of Sri Lanka Tour of Bangladesh LIVE on ThePapare TV (Dialog TV Ch No. 63), Dialog ViU app and ThePapare.com.
