The first Test of the two-match series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh continued for Day 2 today (22nd March) at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka had another productive outing in the morning session on Day 2 as they managed to pick up 3 more wickets. The speedster Lahiru Kumara did all the damage with the ball snaring all three wickets.
Kumara had a couple caught at slip before getting one to go right through the gate. Kasun Rajitha and Vishwa Fernando then returned to clean up the Bangladesh lower order after the lunch break and to give Sri Lanka a 92-run lead.
The left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he grabbed 4 wickets for 48 runs while Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha also impressed with the ball, finishing with figures of 3/31 and 3/56 respectively.
Nishan Madushka once again faltered with the bat as he lost his wicket for 10 runs right at the stroke of tea. The hosts continued to pick up wickets even after the break. Kusal Mendis fell to a shot ball, while Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal both fell to spin.
The former Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne carried on strong at one end and brought up a fighting half-century. He too was holed out after trying to take on a bouncer as the visitors ended Day 2 on a strong position with a 211-run lead with 5 wickets in hand.
