Bangladesh registered a convincing win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match series played today (13th March) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis opted to bat first and they managed to get off to a strong start as the opening pair Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka added 71 runs for the first wicket.
But once the opening partnership was broken, wickets fell at regular intervals in Sri Lankan innings till Mendis and Janith Liyanage stitched together a 69-run partnership for the 5th wicket.

Mendis and Liyanage stroked fine half-centuries to give some impetus to the innings but Bangladesh bowlers fought back with wicket, keeping the visitors at bay.
Bangladesh fast bowlers – Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan shared 9 wickets between them to restrict Sri Lanka to 255 on a good batting surface at Chattogram.
Sri Lanka started off brilliantly with the ball as they managed to pick up 3 top order wickets inside the powerplay. The left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka got rid of Litton Das with a beauty in the very first ball of the innings and dismissed Soumya Sarkar in his next over with a short ball.
Pramod Madushan knocked Towhid Hridoy over with an inswinger to put Bangladesh stuttering at 23/3. However, the skipper Najmul Shanto and Mahmudullah steadied the ship for the hosts adding a 69-run partnership for the 4th wicket before the latter fell to the shot ball ploy set by the speedster Lahiru Kumara.
Bangladesh’s experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim then built a match-winning partnership with the skipper Shanto to guide their side home with ease. The duo added an unbeaten stand worth 165 runs for the 5th wicket to take the game away from the visitors.

Shanto scored a brilliant century while Rahim notched up an elegant half-century for the victorious Bangladesh side. The dew once again played its part as Sri Lankan bowlers found it difficult to control the wet ball in the latter part of the innings.
