As a result of Sri Lanka accepting BCCI’s offer to play five ODIs in November, the three-Test series – which was scheduled to take place in India in August 2015 – will now be hosted on Sri Lankan soil.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Nishantha Ranatunga, secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) made the announcement. “As we are obliging India with a five-match ODI series there next month, India are obliged to return the tour next year and we have switched the Test series,” Ranatunga said. The tour will however, not host any ODIs or Twenty20s.
Ranatunga added that by staging a three-Test series next year, the Sri Lankan board is expected to earn around Rs 43-44 crore. In a contrary development, reports surfaced on Sunday that the BCCI had incurred a loss touching almost 400 crore as a result of the West Indies pull-out.
The BCCI however, is yet to give any official confirmation about the switch. It is being reported that the Indian board has already had a discussion with SLC on the matter and the proposal will be discussed during the ’emergency’ meeting scheduled to take place on October 21.
Sri Lanka last hosted India in a three-match Test series in 2010, which was drawn 1-1.
