Sri Lanka will have a busy international cricket season at home during the latter part of 2014 as Pakistan, South Africa and England will be touring the island for grueling contests.
South Africa will be in action first on a month long tour which comprises 3 ODI’s and 2 test matches. South Africa will play a Test series in Sri Lanka for the first time since 2006. The 3 ODIs will be played at different venues across the country. The two Tests will be played in Galle International stadium and Colombo’s SSC. This will be Sri Lanka’s first home Test series since they hosted Bangladesh in March 2013.
Pakistan will follow South Africa on another month long tour which comprises 2 test matches and 3 ODIs. In this series the Test matches will be played first even though in the South African series ODIs are set to play at the beginning of the tour. Pakistan will play Tests in Galle and in Colombo’s P. Sara Oval grounds. This will be Pakistan’s first international assignment since the World T20 in Bangladesh. Pakistan has played Sri Lanka many times over the past five years with both teams sharing most of the success.
Sri Lanka will cap off the year with a seven match ODI series against the touring England team. 3 ODI matches will be played at the mecca of Lankan cricket, R Premadasa International stadium while Pallekelle International stadium will host two matches.
13 ODIs will be played in total during the last five months of 2014 and it will be a great boost for the Sri Lanka team who has their sights on winning the 50 over world cup in 2015.
