Thisara Perera will lead Sri Lanka in the only T20I match against England on 27th October at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Perera led Sri Lanka in T20Is against Pakistan last year and will take over the captaincy again from Angelo Mathews, who was stripped off from captaincy in ODIs and T20Is after Asia Cup last month.

20-year old middle order batsman and ambidextrous spinner, Kamindu Mendis has been called up for the national team for the very first time.

His unique skills of bowling from both arms came into prominence in the ICC U19 World Cup in 2016 in Bangladesh. He impressed in the practice match against England, prior to the ODI series scoring a classy 61 off 72 balls and bowling 8 overs, conceding 37 runs.

Mendis, hailing from Richmond College, Galle led Sri Lanka U19 in the ICC U19 World Cup earlier this year in New Zealand and was also awarded the prestigious, Dialog 4G-Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year accolade in June.

Kusal Janith Perera has also been named in the 15-man squad as he is expected to recover from a quadriceps injury, which he picked up after the 2nd ODI against England in Dambulla.
