Sri Lanka Netball had a successful tour of Botswana before arriving in Cape Town, South Africa for the Netball World Cup 2023.

During the 10-day tour, Sri Lanka played 4 matches, including two against the Botswana National Team.

The 1st match was against Botswana National team where Sri Lanka lost 51-70. Sri Lanka were close in the first 3 quarters 12-19, 16-13 & 13-15 but lost out in the 4th quarter 10-23.

At the end of the 3rd quarter Sri Lanka were only down by 6-goals. However, Sri Lanka Head Coach Thilaka Jinadasa needing to give match practice to players made changes in the 4th quarter.

“I wanted to try-out all the players and also, I have to keep the players fresh for the World Cup. The main focus of the tour was to gain important match practice and experience playing against tough oppositions,” Thilaka Jinadasa added.

The 2nd match was against Botswana Police which Sri Lanka won comfortably 70-36. The quarter scores read 16-9, 17-14, 17-7 & 20-6. The 3rd match was a close affair against BDF Cats, but Sri Lanka managed to win 55-53. The quarter scores read 14-16, 16-12, 9-12 & 16-13.

The 4th match was again against Botswana National team. The game was much closer than the first game, but Botswana won 54-58. Sri Lanka led 15-13 at the end of the 1st quarter. Though Sri Lanka are ranked 15th and Botswana 24th in the world rankings, Botswana and the African Nations are a lot tougher opponents to the Asian teams.
