Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming ‘A’ team unofficial Test series against Bangladesh ‘A’ later this month.
Test opening batsman Dimuth Karunarathne will hope to regain much-needed match fitness after recovering from a finger injury and will lead the team in Bangladesh while fast bowling all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been named as the Vice-Captain of the side.

Karunarathne who was the fifth-highest Test run scorer in 2017, with 1031 runs, is most likely to play only two of the three unofficial Tests with the two-Test series against South Africa, which Sri Lanka will be hoping he is fit for, kicks off on 12th July.
Shanaka’s on the other hand, has been saddled with leadership responsibility after leading Galle to the SLC Super Provincial Four Day Tournament 2018.
Top order batsman Danushka Gunathilaka and wicket-keeper batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama have also been named in the lineup along with experienced campaigners Ashan Priyanjan and Lahiru Thirimanne.
Young batting stars, Charith Asalanka and Sammu Ashan will add depth to the batting unit while Manoj Sarathchandra has earned his maiden ‘A’ team call-up after a stellar 2017/18 season. He averaged 57.18 during the inter-club tier ‘A’ tournament and struck 206 runs in three provincial games.

The selectors have named three spinners in the squad, left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, chinaman Lakshan Sandakan and right-arm off spinner Nishan Peiris. Both Jayasuriya and Peiris were among the wickets during the Super Provincial Four Day Tournament, picking up 9 and 8 scalps respectively.

Only three fast bowlers in Shehan Madushanka, Nisala Tharaka and Dilesh Gunarathne have been selected for the four-day matches. Madushanka who made his debut with the national team earlier this year will look to make his way back into the squad through this tour while Tharaka was the top wicket-taker in the Provincial Four Day Tournament, 11 wickets in 3 matches.
