Lahiru, Chamika, Milan earn call-ups as Sri Lanka unveils squad for Afghanistan Test

Sri Lanka selectors have named a 16-member squad for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, which will be played from 2nd to 6th February at SSC Grounds, Colombo. 

Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the side for the first time after taking the baton from the outgoing skipper Dimuth Karunartane and will be Sri Lanka’s 18th Test captain. Sri Lanka’s ODI skipper, Kusal Mendis, will be his deputy in Test format. 

Sri Lanka’s regular players in the Test team, likes of the skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, Asitha Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, Vishwa Fernando feature in the squad along with young talents Nishan Madushka, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kamindu Mendis.  

Three uncapped players, Lahiru Udara, Chamika Gunasekara and Milan Ratnayake, have also been named in the squad. 

Sri Lanka last played a Test match nearly six months ago when they hosted Pakistan for a 2-match series in July 2023.
