Former Antonian and Kandy Sports Club represent Danush Dayan has been appointed as captain for the Sri Lanka National sevens outfit ahead of the 2019 sevens season that will kick off at the end of this month (August).
The appointment was confirmed by Sri Lanka Rugby this morning after the final 19-member squad commenced training ahead of the 1st leg.
A product of St. Anthony’s College, Danush Dayan rose to the spotlight in 2014 when he was handpicked for the Kandy Sports Club team. Playing as a utility back, Dayan has been an impressive cog under the high ball and adds in value with his astounding pace.

For Kandy, Dayan was an important whip in their attack playing at wing. His exceptional performance sparked the eye of the national selectors making his debut in the national sevens team in 2015.
Since then, Dayan has been a regular in the national jersey playing as a forward and has stamped his authority over the years in the front line.

The last two seasons were his prime where he has been the player with the most minutes on the field for Sri Lanka with him playing all of the major tournaments.
The 26-year-old will have huge responsibilities vested in him in this upcoming Asia Sevens Series that will kick off in Incheon in South Korea on the 31st of this month.

With a new side expected to turn up in national colours, it will be a fresh challenge Danush Dayan and his team with the Olympic qualifiers also set to take place in October.
