Sources from the SLSRFA added that the uncertainty in the venues and the clashes with the Dialog Clifford Cup were few of the main concerns that were raised and are currently considering the shift from February to March. The other concern according to the SLSRFA was the sponsorship confirmation for the league which is yet in the process of being finalized.

2017 Schools rugby league groups announced

Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) has announced the groups and the calendar dates for the much awaited Schools league..

Earlier last year, the national body shifted the Schools Sevens tournament to a later date to accommodate the league tournament in February. This was in order to go in line with the international calendar but due to these reasons, there is every possibility that the league will be back-dated by a month.

The weeks from mid-February to mid-March is a busy week for school sports with the Big Matches also scheduled during these weeks. Due to this, many schools according to their earlier fixtures have opted to play their matches on either Fridays or Mondays.
