Six schools competed in the first session of the Southern Province Invitational Basketball Tournament. Here`s a look at what happened.
Dharmashoka College, Ambalangoda took on St.Thomas` College – Matara in the maiden game of the tournament. Dominating the game from the traditional jump ball start Dharmashoka College led the game at the end of the first half 36-04.
It was not the easiest of tasks for the visitors to get back into the game even after a ten-minute break as Dharmashoka College halted many possessions and prevented them from scoring. Dasun Nilantha, playing an anchor role scored the most number of points for the home team. In total Dharamashoka College scored 31 points for the 2nd half and ended the game victorious with a lead of 61 points.

The second match was played between Mahinda College – Galle and St. Aloysius College – Galle. Mahinda College led the game as they went onto score 28 points in reply to the 16 of the opposition in the 1st half.
St. Aloysius College revamping their games plans came from behind and scored 34 points for the entire 2nd half which shifted the momentum to their side. Mahinda College only managed to score 13 points in reply.

The final match of the maiden session was played between Rahula College and Richmond College. It was a tight first quarter as the difference between the sides on the scoreboard was just six points. Rahula College banking on the early lead was on top of the game by a point at the end of the first half as the scores read 12-11.
Even though the first half ended with a slight margin in the score book, Richmond College went up a gear in the 2nd half, scoring 40 points as they registered their first win in the tournament.
