Sri Lanka Rugby and Kandy Sports Club’s loyal fan Farook Hameed, or fondly known as ‘Kandy Fa’ passed away this evening after prolonged illness, in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

Farook has been a renowned figure at Kandy Sports Club games even before Kandy rose to fame – being a supporter of the club since the early 1990’s. Having had his education at Vidyartha College, he has been a close follower of the club from his youth.

A Kandy match will definitely be incomplete without the likes of Farook in the stands. Be it at Nittawela or in Colombo, he will always make it a point to be there with his Kandy Sports Club flag on his shoulder.

Six months ago, Farook was diagnosed with a cancer, confining him to a wheelchair. Ever since then, he has not been able to regain his strength.

Farook was in Medina in Saudi Arabia on a pilgrimage when he was hospitalized. He was pronounced dead shortly after. He was 65 at the time of his demise.

As the rugby fraternity mourns the death of their beloved ‘Farook uncle’ they will definitely remember him as an individual who stood beside the sport, unconditionally.
