Following the breach in the code of conduct by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union over fielding two ineligible players during the 2014 Asia 5 Nations series that was played in the Racecourse Complex, the international governing body for rugby, World Rugby has imposed a 25,000 pound fine on the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU).

This verdict comes as a result of Sri Lanka utilizing the services of two Fiji nationals; Emori Waqavulagi and Joseph Dunn during the Asia 5 Nations XV a side tournament that was played in Sri Lanka in 2014 and later in the Asia Sevens Series.

The SLRFU will be liable to pay approximately 4.8 million rupees to World Rugby but ThePapare.com learns that the SLRFU has written to the international body requesting a reduction of the fine.

“The fine is in place but we have appealed for a reduction in the fine and we are yet to hear from them on the verdict” added SLRFU President Asanga Seneviratne.

The fine will have no effect on the progress and activities of the SLRFU.
