Sri Lanka Preliminary squads announced for Zimbabwe series

The newly appointed National Selection Committee has selected preliminary squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Zimbabwe.

Kusal Mendis has been named as the Captain of the ODI side, while middle order batter Charith Asalanka will be his deputy.

Most of the players who were part of the Sri Lanka ODI World Cup squad have retained their places in the 21-member ODI preliminary squad.

The opening batter Avishka Fernando, wrist spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who missed the World Cup due to injury, and spinners Akila Dananjaya and Jeffrey Vandersay, who were overlooked in the white-ball format in recent months, have made the cut.

Meanwhile, national selectors have handed over the T20I captaincy to Wanindu Hasaranga, while Charith Asalanka has been named as his deputy in the shortest format of the game.

The veteran batter Angelo Mathews and hard-hitting batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa have returned to the T20I side, while T20I specialists Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara are also named in the 22-member preliminary squad.
