The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has announced the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Myanmar, which will take place on the 10th and 13th of October in Myanmar.
Sujan Perera will continue to lead the team from in-goal as youngsters Chalana Chameera, Raul Suresh and Mohamed Thilham have been all drafted in from the U20 squad for the pair of friendlies.
Sri Lanka will be without Jack Hingert, Jason Thayaparan and Claudio Matthias as the trio is not set to feature in this friendly despite their great efforts in the previous qualifier.
Bharath Suresh, Firaz Marshuk, Thenuka Ranaweera and Woranda Perera are a few others two are missing out on selection for these two games as FFSL and coach Abdullah Almutairi has opted for a mix of youth and experience.
The two friendlies are as a part of the FIFA International Friendly this week. According to the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, the teams will battle it out in Yangon, Myanmar.
Myanmar are 167th of the FIFA rankings while Sri Lanka currently sit on 200.
This meeting has opened the door for greater cooperation between the two countries, with both aiming to raise the quality of football in their regions.
With the leaders exchanging ideas and approaches, the focus remains on strengthening their national football programs and supporting the growth of the sport throughout Asia.
President Zaw Zaw praised Sri Lanka’s notable progress in football under Umar’s leadership, recognizing the ongoing changes within the country’s football scene.
Additionally, the exchange of custom-designed national jerseys represented the mutual respect and friendship between the nations, signalling a promising future for football in both Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
Hiran Rathnayake, Manager of the Sri Lankan National Team, was also present, contributing to the discussions cantered around advancing football in the region.
