Sri Lanka Navy Women’s Wins Defense Services Water Polo Championship

Sri Lanka Navy who entered the Finals of the Defense Services Water Polo Championship  remained unbeaten and became the Champions beating Sri Lanka Air Force by a huge score margin of 11- 03. Sri Lanka Navy thus sends out a message with this victory that they are the team to be beaten this season.

Sri Lanka Navy entered the finals beating Sri Lanka Army and Air Force in the round matches and Sri Lanka Air Force entered the finals beating Army and losing to Navy. A tight battle was expected but Navy took away the game from Air Force from the very beginning.

Dharithri Amarasekara opened the scoring for Sri Lanka Navy but S. M. Priyangani from Air Force was quick enough to score an equalizer to cut short the Navy celebrations. But Dharithri scored for Navy once again taking Navy in to the lead. Deethri Samarajeewa then scored for Navy before the end of 1st quarter to give Navy a 3-1 lead at the end of the quarter.

Navy Defense then came in to the act and held on a very tight defense allowing Air Force to score no goals in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and the Navy attack managed to score 2 and 3 goals each in the 2nd and 3rd quarters respectively. National Vice- Captain Charya Dharmadasa scored both for Navy in the 2nd quarter. Lukshani Rathnayake scored one for Navy in the 3rd quarter while Charya Dharmadasa and Dharithri Amaratunga both managed to score a goal each in the 3rd quarter completing a hat trick of goals in front of their names name.

Sri Lanka Air Force managed to break off the Navy defense and score 2 goals in the final quarter but that was not enough to pull back the game in favor of Navy as Navy scored 3 goals in the final quarter. For Air Force M. P. A. Pathirana began the scoring in the 4th quarter but goals from Lukshani Rathnayake and Manisha Rajanayaka took Air Force to further trouble. S. M. Priyangani managed to score another goal for the Air Force but it was too late as Sachintha Fernando gave the finishing touches and scored the final goal for Navy.

Sri Lanka Navy begins their season on high with this victory and would be hoping they can keep the same form for the rest of the season
