The Sri Lankans participating in the ITF Junior Circuit in Sri Lanka have done particularly well playing against the big names from the Chinese Taipei, Japan, Indonesia and Netherlands.
In the men’s category, Avindra Perera and Vibudha Wijebandara made their way into the quarter finals beating Yang Cheng Chen (TPE) and Muhammed Raza Sawani (PAK) 2-6, 6-1 in the men’s doubles.
They are due to play the Chen duo from the Chinese Taipei. Vikum Jayasuriya and Seth Manal Algama fell short of the quarters losing yet again to a duo from the Chinese Taipei. The Lankans had no luck in the men’s singles, unfortunately.
The women did better with more players qualifying into the next round. Anika Seneviratne beat the Lebanese Karla Tohme, while Savini Jayasuriya lost to Archita Mahalwal from India. Nethmi Himasha Waduge won her game against Man Hsuan Weng from the Chinese Taipei. Senuri Alexander, Nathasha Munaweera, Oneli Perera, Janali Manamperi and Samadhi Jayasinghe were not able to dominate their respective games.
In the women’s doubles, Anika Seneviratne and Nethmi Himashi Waduge beat the duo from the States and Sri Lanka, Emily Oh and Janali Manamperi, respectively.
The Sri Lankans have had a good run so far despite playing against the overseas players.
