The Sri Lanka Netball team is off to Singapore for the Nations Cup

The Sri Lanka Netball Team is set to leave for Singapore today (20th October) to participate in the 14th Nations Cup Invitation International Netball Tournament 2023. 

The Netball Singapore tournament is scheduled to take place at the OCBA Arena Sports Hub in Singapore from the 22nd to the 28th of October, featuring the participation of six teams. The invited teams include Canada, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, and Sri Lanka, while Singapore and Singapore ‘A’ teams will participate as the host country. 

Sri Lanka will kick off the tournament, playing their first game against Canada on the opening day. On the 23rd and 24th of October, they will face Singapore ‘A’ and Cook Islands, respectively. The islanders will then compete against Papua New Guinea on the 25th and Singapore on the 27th of October. The competition’s final match is set for the 28th of October. 

Dulangi Wannithilake, a veteran player who served as the Vice-Captain of the team during the Cape Town Netball World Cup 2023, will lead the Sri Lanka side this time. The inaugural edition of this tournament took place in 2006, and Sri Lanka’s most recent appearance was in 2013. Notably, Sri Lanka has never secured a victory in the Nations Cup, finishing fourth in the 2007, 2008, 2012, and 2013 seasons.
