Sri Lanka in poor show

Great Britain put on a splendid performance against Sri Lanka in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium this evening.

The Great Britain Combination University dominated from the beginning not allowing Sri Lanka into the game at any stage with all 3 departments of their game in topping condition.

Sahan Perera the captain of Sri Lankan team managed to win the toss but had no hesitation to field first a decision that could be said in hindsight backfired on the host nation.  Great Britain slammed 162 in their 20 for just the loss of 5 wickets.

H Bush lead the way scoring  43 runs in 30 balls. The visitors looked solid when he was slashing around with three sixes and 1 four in his knock.  He was run out  by the combination of V Gunathilaka and S. U Perera. Captain Sahan Perera managed to run out S Fuad for 25 runs.  C Wakefield and R. J.J Woolley managed to slash out 1 six each to score 24 and 15 run respectively. The final overs were taken on by HR Edwards and J.C O’Nien to take the tally to 162 in which their contribution was an unbeaten 8 and 28 runs correspondingly.

Sri Lanka fell short woefully inadequate getting themselves all out for 99 in just 17 overs unable to finish their quota of 20. H.K.R Madushanka scored the highest runs for the team (29) while W.A.R.P Perera managed 20.

The bowling department of the Great Britain was lethal with J.E. Posyden and J.H. lomas taking three wickets a piece while R.J.J Woolley and H Bush bagged 2 each.

The mega event sponsored by Red Bull will be continued till 6th April while the award ceremony will be held with a grand culmination with  the participation of many artists of Sri Lanka.
