Sri Lanka were humiliated by Malawi in the 14th Netball World Cup Pool C match played at the Allphones Arena on Saturday by 101 goals to 18.
Malawi became the first nation to go beyond the 100 goals mark in this year’s tournament.
From the first to the last whistle it was Malawi who completely outclassed the Islanders who were in deficit of 20 goals in all four quarters.
The Lankan lasses once again showed that they are still minnows in the International Netball arena. They could not cope with the speed and calculated game of Malawi outfit and from the first half itself gave up the game.
Thishala Algama one time best shooter of Asia had no clue as she got in touch with the ball less than 15 times in the two quarters she played. The Sri Lankan coach Deepthi Alwis had no option other than replacing her with Hasitha Mendis who tried her best to show her talent, but to no avail.
In the first quarter Malawi led 23 to 3 goals and in the second 29 to 3 goals which put them 52 to 6 goals lead at the half time.
In the last two quarters too Sri Lankans could not match the power of Malawi and lost 5-22 and 7-27 respectively.
For the winners Mwayi Kumwenda scored 32 goals out of 36 attempts and Jane Chimiliro 21 out of 22 and both were substituted by Joyce Mvula (28 out of 32) and Sindi Simtowe (20 out of 22) in the 3rd quarter and they too were at their brilliance.
