A marathon cycle race organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force will take place from 1st to the 3rd March 2013. The event organized by the Interim Committee for Cycling will be conducted in 3 stages, during 3 days.
Day 1- Colombo to Dambulla 147.1km
Day 2- Dambulla to Puttalam 142.9km
Day 3- Puttalam to Colombo 128.6km
This grueling ride will test the strength and endurance and only the most seasoned athletes are expected to hold the course. The race commences each morning at 8.30am and will run for distances above 100km per day. The organisers will provide funds for rider’s and manager’s accommodation and meals in the different locations.
Abans has come forward as the main sponsor of the event while Hiru TV and Hiru FM are the media sponsors. Janashakthi Insurance will be the insurances sponsor of the event.
The price money is said to be steep with 1st place-Rs.300,000.00, 2nd place -Rs 200,000.00 and 3rd place -Rs.100,000.00. In additional there will also be consolation prices upto the 15th place in the race which will range from 50,000- 35,000/-
Further each stage winners will be selected with price money of Rs 15,000 – 1st place, Rs 10,000 – 2nd place and Rs 5,000.00 – 3rdplace. In the different stages a sprint winner will be selected in the category of speed and Rs 5,000.00 will be awarded. Rs 20,000 will be awarded to the overall sprint champion with youngest rider getting Rs.50,000.00
The team championship winner receives Rs 150,000 while runner up Rs 75,000/-
