The Football Federation of Sri Lanka in a sudden move has sacked the National coach Nikola Kavazovic.

Serbian international, Kavazovic was appointed mid last year after Sri Lanka’s dismal showing in the SAFF Championship where Maldives thrashed the island nation 10-0. Kavazovic has been working on a rebuilding process with focus on youth where the average age of the squad was 23.

However after a successful couple of friendly tours Sri Lanka suffered a major setback when they were defeated by FIFA last ranked team, Bhutan in 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in February. It was believed that Kavazovic’s contract would be renewed for another year but was terminated in a sudden move.

When ThePapare.com tried to contact Kavazovic he was unable to make a comment on the current situation.

Speaking to ThePapare.com FFSL President Ranjith Rodrigo had this to say.

“Kavazovic was nearing the end of his 1st year contract which would be 31st May. We agreed on mutual understanding that is it best to part ways.”
