The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) announced that the Sri Lanka National Men’s Football Team will play Malaysia National Men’s Football Team in an International friendly on 12th October at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The starting time of the match is yet to be finalized while the Sri Lanka National Pool will begin their training on 1st October at the Beddegana National Football Training Complex.
The squad has been on rest for the last couple of weeks after returning from the 2018 SAFF Suzuki Cup which was held in Bangladesh. The Sri Lanka Team made a reasonably successful tour to the SAFF Championship compared to the last two editions with a 2-0 loss to India and a 0-0 draw against the eventual champions Maldives.
Malaysia are ranked 171st in the world while Sri Lanka moved up one position to 199th from 200th after the rankings were updated on 20th September 2018.

A statement by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka read;
“We could see the improvement of the players as a team even though they failed to enter the semi-finals unfortunately in the SAFF Championship. Now, the squad will start the preparation for the upcoming matches with the recently gained international experience.
As FFSL promised, we have planned to give more opportunities to the Sri Lanka National Football Team to play international matches in front of the local crowd.”
