A 5-match T20 series between the touring Sri Lanka Emerging Team and Japan National Team kicked off today (10th May) with Sri Lanka Emerging registering a 5-wicket win at Sano International Cricket Stadium in Japan.

After being asked to bat first, Lachlan Lake smashed three boundaries before Sithum Dissanayake castled him for 13 and soon after Japan was reduced to 3/28. Japan lost their skipper Kadowaki Fleming for 21 at the score of 57.
Sri Lanka Emerging Squad announced for the Japan Tour 2023
The Japan innings never got going well as they finished with 97 for 6 in their 20 overs. Marcus Thurgate and Reo Sakurano remained unbeaten with 14 runs apiece. Skipper Dellon Peiris was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka Emerging as he managed to pick 3 for 21 in his 4 overs. Apart from that, Danal Hemananda, Lakshan Gamage and Sithum Dissanayake shared three wickets between them.
Chasing 98 to win, Sri Lanka Emerging has also lost five wickets with Ibrahim Takahashi bagging three out of the wickets to fall. However, Ranmith Jayasena (25*) and skipper Dellon Peiris (17*) carried Sri Lanka Emerging to victory with an unbroken 48-run partnership for the 6th wicket as the they reached the target with 27 balls to spare.
The 2nd T20 match between the two sides will take place tomorrow (11th May) at the same venue.
