Business Management School (BMS), Sri Lanka met the Marathwada Mitramandal College of Commerce (MMCC), India in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World finals tournament.
The visiting team from India batted first and managed to post a total of 169 for the loss of 8 wickets in their respective 20 overs. Omkar Khatpe stabilized the Indian innings scoring a 26 ball 46, unfortunately falling short of his half century. Atul Vitkar placed himself amongst the runs with a quick fire 34 runs off 18 balls. Two third of Vitkar’s 34 came off 4 deliveries that sailed over the boundary line.
The Sri Lankan bowling unit’s hopes were kept high by some brilliant, dynamic fielding and the 3 wickets of Geshan Wimaladharma’s four overs. Ranitha Liyanarachchi gave the Indians a tough time conceding just 28 runs off his four overs. However, he was rewarded with just one wicket.

Geshan Wimaladharma, added on to the damage done to the opposition only with the ball. Skipper Niroshan Dickwella and Wimaladharma read the bowlers well and executed the first few deliveries of the second innings with ease, seemingly. Despite the pliant array of shots, the opening stand fell short at 39, with Wimaladharma contributing 28 off 14 balls.
Shehan Jayasuriya, the distinct name in the Campus tournament of Sri Lanka, delivered yet again scoring an unbeaten 56. Janith Liyanage supported Jayasuriya by rotating the strike and packed in a couple of deliveries which reached the circumference marker. Jayasuriya thwacked the last ball out of the ground to wrap up the game with the loss of just 3 wickets for the hosts.
Yash Nahar bagged 2 wickets giving away 25 runs in his respective number of overs, and top scorer Omkar Khatpe got the third wicket for the MMCC.
The Islanders recorded their first victory in the World Finals, comprehensively with a 7 wicket margin. The team will meet UAE and Pakistan on the 6th and 7th September 2016, respectively. Both games will be played at 9.30 am, at the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC).
