Sri Lanka Dominates Singapore National Diving Championship

Sri Lanka’s diving team has made a remarkable splash at the 14th Singapore National Diving Championship, securing an impressive haul of medals and becoming the overall champion. The team’s impressive performance, which included securing 26 medals (07 gold, 08 silver, and 11 bronze), solidified their dominance at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

The team’s standout performance was highlighted by Raphail Jayaweera of Royal College, who claimed the first gold medal for Sri Lanka in the Group ‘C’ Boys 3 Meter Springboard event. His teammates, Shushen Wijesinghe and Giyanka Wickramasinghe, also contributed to Sri Lanka’s dominance in this category by securing silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Other notable achievements include Venuka Kankanamge and Yusuf Shihar’s silver medal in the 1 Meter Springboard Open category and Imaya Perera’s bronze medal in the Group ‘A’ Girls 3 Meter and 1 Meter Springboard events. Royal College’s Ruel Wickramaratne and Mikhail Jayaweera also contributed to Sri Lanka’s medal tally with their respective silver and bronze medals in the Group ‘B’ Platform events. Raphail Jayaweera was the standout performer as he was able to come out strong in Group C category winning two gold medals for the country.

The championship concluded with a triumphant finish for Sri Lanka, as Selina Silva and Kisara Ranawaka secured the gold medal in the Synchronized Platform Girls (Group A/B) category. This marked Sri Lanka’s 18th medal and sixth gold of the competition. Our young lions excelled in A/B synchro category as they managed to clinch 4 gold medals showcasing their absolute dominance.

The Sri Lanka Diving Team’s participation in the 14th Singapore National Diving Championship showcased their exceptional talent and dedication. The team’s success is a testament to the hard work and training put in by the divers and their coaches. As Sri Lanka continues to make waves in the international diving scene, the country can look forward to even greater achievements in future competitions.
