Sri Lanka defeat Italy in BNP Paribus World Team Cup

The Sri Lankan Wheelchair tennis contingent who is currently touring Turkey for the BNP Paribus World Team Cup which is the Davis Cup equivalent for the wheelchair players recorded their first win beating Italy 2 games to 1.

The BNP Paribus which which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year is the ITF’s flagship wheelchair event held alongside the main events. Sri Lanka are currently competing in the 2015 event which is being worked off at Mangavat, Turkey from the 25th to the 31st May 2015. 

The group stage games are currently being worked off at Mangavat and Sri Lanka were successful against their first opponents Italy where they won 2 games to 1. Sri Lanka’s Upali Rajakaruna won his single outright against Italy’s Luca Arca and paired with Gamini Dissanayaka to win the Doubles game.

Sri Lanka will need to play against Thailand, Brazil, Spain and Germany in order to advance into the next round.
