Sri Lanka take Cup glory at Paris World Games

The Sri Lanka national men’s sevens team, playing as Lanka Lions emerged as cup champions in the open category at the Paris World Games that was worked off during the weekend (7th & 8th).

The Tuskers who took flight to Paris as a preparatory tournament for the upcoming Asian Games and the Asian Sevens Series were clear favourites throughout the tournament with the team winning all of their games with a clear majority.

Facing French team Bagneux in the final, the Tuskers steamrolled their way to the title with the game ending 50-0. The national representation won the cup championship surpassing the teams from different regions of France as well as from the African and Asian region.

Earlier in the tournament, the Tuskers defeated their group stage opponents Leopard Sevens 41-10, Club HEC 25-0 and Ocean Sevens Bleu 33-12.

Finishing group top, the Tuskers then faced the Ocean Seven rouge team in the semifinals and once again it was easy going for the side that made it through to the finals to play Bagneux.

This victory for the Lankans should liven their spirits ahead of the Asian Games in Jakarta with the team set to return to the island tomorrow and resume their preparation stint for the tournament that kicks off on the 30th of August 2018.
