The Sri Lanka Netball Federation has named the squad that will participate in the Asian Youth Netball Championships scheduled to be held in Hong Kong from the 14th to the 20th of December.
The 12 member squad includes Vice-Captain of the national team Gayani Dissanayake as well as other national squad members Thisala Algama and Gayanjali Amarawansa, who represented Sri Lanka at the Netball World Cup held in Sydney, earlier this year. Not only will this be an opportunity for the youngsters to re-establish Sri Lanka’s reputation in the Netballing circles but it also gives them a chance to qualify for the World Youth Netball Cup to be held in Botswana in 2017. With only one spot available for the World Cup in 2017, the girls will face tough competition from teams such as Singapore, Malaysia and hosts Hong Kong, who have surged ahead of Sri Lanka in the recent past.
