The Asian qualifier for the Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball tournaments for the Commonwealth Games 2022 were worked out at the Negombo Beach Park, Sri Lanka on 18th and 19th March, and both the Sri Lanka Men & Women teams came out victorious at the end of the competition.
Ashen Rashmika and Malinda Yapa represented Sri Lanka in the Men’s category, while Chathurika Madushani and Deepika Bandara played in the Women’s category.
Both teams were unbeaten throughout the competition and won the finals comprehensively against Maldives (Men) and Singapore (Women). Ashen Rashmika and Malinda Yapa defeated Maldivian duo Ismail Sajid and Adam Naseem in the final 2-0 (21-13, 21-13), while Chathurika Madushani and Deepika Bandara got the better of Eliza Chong and Ong Wei Yu from Singapore in the final. (21-18, 22-20)
With that, the Sri Lanka Men and Women Beach Volleyball teams managed to book their flights to Birmingham, England for the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games, which is scheduled from 28th July-8th August.
