Sri Lanka Basketball concluded the final year of the last decade with honors, as the National Men’s Team went on to grab the Silver medal at 2019 South Asian Games. With this boost, the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) has planned a total of 84 events for the brand-new decade.
Sri Lanka will be tested in international waters going straight into the first quarter of the year, with the most important event in the entire calendar taking place in February 2020.

After being crowned SABA champions, Sri Lanka made their headway back to the Asian Circuit after a lapse of 9 years. The first window of qualifiers for the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 will be played in Sri Lanka from the 17th to the 25th of February. The second window of qualifiers will be played later in the year in November 2020.
The first quarter of the calendar year will also feature the 52nd Senior Nationals and the maiden professional basketball league of the island, the Sri Lanka Basketball League.
Apart from the prime international tournaments, more exposure in the calendar has been awarded to 3×3, the shorter version of the game. This format has been a platform for the Lankans to dominate and and bring fame to the country.

The 3×3 100 Open Pick-Up Games Program has been scheduled during the weekends, where the top contenders of the domestic circuit will compete against each other.
The school tournaments from the U15 to U19 categories have also been scheduled towards the second and third quarters of the calendar.
However, the challenge for the organizers and the administration would be to ensure that all these tournaments will be played without lapses. Following unfortunate Easter Sunday Attacks which occurred in April 2019, the Sri Lanka Basketball calendar came to a standstill with just 4 to 5 tournaments, which were additionally hampered by inclement weather. Hence, it is imperative that the SLBF restores basketball back to its former glory in our paradise island during the first year of this novel decade.
