The Sri Lanka National Baseball team will take on Nepal in their opener of the West Asia Baseball Cup 2023 in Pakistan. The tournament will be held from 26th of January to 2nd of February.
The Sri Lanka team commenced training for the tournament in 2022 as the tournament was scheduled to be held the previous year, however, the tournament got postponed on several occasions due to the pandemic.
The competent Sri Lanka team was picked following the National Baseball Tournament held in September 2022.

The hosts, Pakistan are the favorites with their firepower due to their vast player pool. Most of their players represent clubs from around the world, however, Sri Lanka will need to pull a rabbit out of their cap if they are to surprise the home team and defend their crown which they won way back in 2019.
The Ministry of Sports have been supporting the Sri Lanka Baseball Association throughout the period, providing accommodation and meals for the players and ensuring the players were well looked after. Hon. Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe, State Minister Hon. Rohana Dissanayake, Secretary to the Minister of Sports K. Maheeshan and Director General Mr. Amal Edirisooriya were all pivotal with providing funding for the air fare of the players, ensuring their passage to Pakistan.
Sri Lanka’s group stage opponents will be Nepal, India, and Palestine.
