Dasun Shanaka, as reported earlier by ThePapare, will lead Sri Lanka in both the ODIs and T20Is while Dhananjaya De Silva will function as his deputy. Shanaka replaces Kusal Perera, who was appointed Captain only in May this year.
Out of these 25 players, the management will consider some players only for ODIs and some only for T20Is. Therefore, for each format, the 25 squad is expected to be pruned down to 18.
With the threat of Covid-19 looming within the touring party which arrived from England on Monday, the squad for India may see some changes in the coming days as well.
Out of the 24 players which were a part of the England tour, the suspended trio of Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella were not considered for selection. Also, batsman Oshada Fernando and fast-bowler Nuwan Pradeep have been dropped, ThePapare learns.
Six more players in Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Lahiru Udara, Ashen Bandara and Minod Bhanuka have been added to the squad. However, due to the Covid-19 threat among the support staff, these six players have not yet joined the team bio-bubble in Colombo.
