Sri Lanka Team - 19th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship 2018

The Sri Lanka Women’s team will be participating in the 19th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship in Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam.

Sri Lanka will be making their 12th appearance in the competition which will be held from 10th-17th June.

Army & Navy champions at Sunquick Beach Volleyball

Army SC & Navy SC won the Sunquick National Beach Volleyball Championship 2018 Men’s

There will be 16 teams participating in the tournament which will act as a qualifier for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship.

Sri Lanka are in Pool D, alongside New Zealand, Uzbekistan and Malaysia. Sri Lanka are participating in the championship for the 13th time.

This is the first Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Cup which will use the new competition format. Following the 2017 AVC Board of Administration’s unanimous decision, the new format will see teams being drawn into three or four pools up to the total amount of the participating teams.

Each team as well as the host side will be assigned into a pool according to their previous ranking (2016 Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship). As the four best-ranked teams will be drawn in the same Pool A, the next best four will contest Pool B, the next best four will contest Pool C. Pool D will comprise teams finishing next best four teams.

Sri Lanka’s best finish in the championship has been 8th place, that was in 1986, 2004 & 2014. Sri Lanka hosted the tournament in 2004.

Sri Lanka team will be captained by Dinusha Dilrukshi while the Head Coach will be Sumeda Wimalaweera. Assistant coach will be Tharaka Rathnaweera and trainer is Morris Chaminda. Team Manager will be Manjula Kariyawasam.

Janitha Champion & Best Server in Thai-Denmark Super League

Janitha Surath was adjudged the Best Server in the 2018 Men’s Volleyball

Six players represent Anamaduwa Central College including the skipper Dinusha Dilrukshi, Shihara Sewmini, Nipuni Ayodhya, Piumi Bhashini, Piumi Bhagya and Ridmika Sanjeewani.

Rashini Ishara, Shihara Sewmini, Dinusha Dilrukshi, I.A.I. Sewwandi, Sansala Nethmini and Nipuni Ayodhya are the six High Attackers while the three Quick Attackers are Piumi Bhashini, Piumi Bhagya and Rishinethra Balasuriya.

Nethmi Kaushlaya and Kosala Sewwandi are the Setters and the Libero will be Ridmika Sanjeewani.
